THE FIGHTING PROWESS OF THE COHO SALMON

Coho Salmon are fished on many of our river systems in the Fraser Valley. With an average of 6-10 lbs and some getting over 15lbs Coho salmon are known for their aggressive, yet “moody” behaviour, which can provide a good challenge for any angler. They will chase and strike at a wide variety of presentations, making them an ideal salmon species to target using flies, spoons and spinners. They can also be caught using traditional drift gear with natural and artificial baits, and are a lot of fun using light and medium tackle. Each river system has its own unique characteristics and some river systems fish better with certain methods.

Each river system has its own distinct time when fishing is at its best, this gives us the flexibility to move around and fish which ever river is producing. Flexibility and knowledge of the local rivers systems is the key to our success.

With Coho Salmon being the pinnacle they can range from being extremely shy and wary to attacking with reckless abandonment. The Coho Salmon is a feisty acrobat that is a big favourite among many river anglers.

KNUCKLE-BUSTING CHUM SALMON

This fishery has become very popular with anglers from around the world and simply said Chum Salmon provide a work out. These fish show in huge numbers every year and are eager to fight. Averaging between 8 and 16 pounds with many topping 20lbs these are some of the biggest in the world.

Chum Salmon are knuckle busters and stamina to fight these fish is a prerequisite when chasing these bruisers. Chum Salmon fishing is great for the novice to expert angler who is looking for action. They are an aggressive species willing to chase and strike at many different offerings, making them ideal for an awesome day on the river.

BATTLE WITH THE KING OF THE RIVER – THE CHINOOK SALMON

The Chinook Salmon is the king of them all, and they don’t call them kings for nothing. They’re big, they’re strong, and they’ll bust your tackle if you’re under- equipped. They are the biggest of the Pacific Salmon species, and are known to exceed 50+lbs.

We target Chinook Salmon mainly on the Fraser River with common angling practices such as “traditional” bar-fishing and fly-fishing, both single and double spey casting. Hooking these fish is not difficult, landing them is another thing and it is not uncommon to hook into fish over 20lbs in a day.

We also fish for Chinook Salmon on the Vedder River and the Harrison River tributaries as well. These much smaller and scenic rivers provide you with walk & wade opportunities where the Chinook Salmon can be targeted using other methods such as float fishing and fly-fishing.

ACROBATIC SOCKEYE SALMON

Sockeye Salmon fishing is fast becoming one of the most popular sport fish in freshwater. The mighty Fraser River and its tributaries get some of the largest sockeye salmon runs in the world. With runs quite often surpassing 10+ million fish there are lots of these hard fighting fish around, displaying great aerial acrobatics, and super-fast, line peeling runs.

They average 5-8lbs, with bigger fish over 10lbs available. Every year, anglers patiently await the arrival of the Sockeye Salmon, as it provides fast, action packed fishing that is hard to beat!

BI-ANNUAL PINK RUN HAS RETURNS IN THE 10’S OF MILLIONS

Pink Salmon on average are the smallest species of the salmon family. Don’t let their average size of 5 – 7 lbs fool you because their ability to shake, rattle and roll off the hook is quite amazing. Pink Salmon are one of the more easily caught species of salmon for two reasons. First their sheer numbers, between 5 and 20 million Pink Salmon return each year and second , they are very aggressive towards predators such as lures and fly’s and spinners.

The timing of the Pink Salmon’s migration coincides with the annual migration of the Sockeye Salmon which can reach as high as 30 million fish. It is a fishing experience that would last a lifetime.
